Audio playing is a completely separated from Player. Each playlist item runs in a different process in the operating system, which maintains stability. Task Manager shows these processes as AudioThread.exe, and they have the highest priority. If audio playing is stalling, that possibly caused by a faulty DirectX filter in the filter chain.
