You can assign a DirectX filter chain to each playlist item. Chain consists of DirectX plugins, each one changes the audio data, so you can change the sound as you wish.
Double click brings on the DirectX plugin properties window.
Filter chain also contains invisible plugins, that load and decode audio files and control audio devices.
